How to Add a Mobile Signature in the Gmail App (iOS & Android)

The Gmail mobile app has its own signature setting, completely separate from your Gmail desktop signature. It only supports plain text — no images, no HTML formatting. Here's how to set it up on iOS or Android.

Before you start

You'll need a signature to paste. Already have one? Skip to step 1.

Step-by-step setup

1
Open the Gmail app on your phone. Make sure you're logged into the correct Google account.
2
Tap the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the top-left corner to open the side drawer.
3
Scroll down in the side drawer and tap 'Settings'.
4
If you have multiple Gmail accounts, tap the account you want to set a signature for.
5
Scroll down in the account settings until you see 'Mobile Signature'. Tap it.

Pro tip: If you don't see 'Mobile Signature', make sure your Gmail app is updated to the latest version.

6
Clear any existing text and type your mobile signature. Keep it short — 3-4 lines with your name, title, and a phone number work well.
7
Tap 'OK' or 'Save' to save your signature. Compose a new email to confirm it appears.

Common issues

Mobile signature not showing up

Confirm you're composing from the correct account. In the Gmail app, tap the account icon (top-right) to see which account is active.

HTML code showing as text

Gmail mobile signatures are plain text only. Any HTML you paste will appear as raw code. Type your signature as plain text instead.

Can't find the Mobile Signature option

Update the Gmail app. On older versions, the option may be under Settings → General settings. On newer versions it's under your specific account settings.
